Architectural Design IV (ARC60508)
Instructors: Mr Ahmad Nazmi Mohamed Anuar & Mr Edward Chew
To develop awareness of environmental sustainability within context in architectural design and to meet the imperative and inter-related environmental and social needs, as well as make poetry through creative use of materials and structure, students will undertake to design a wellness centre in secluded
landscape within a neighborhood, which engages with program, site topography and vegetation, socio-cultural events, and variety of passive strategies for sustainable design. The design work explores the plan-section integration to achieve architectural form that is tectonically expressive, functional, and responsive to its site. At the
same time, design exercise relates to spaces with values and culture, while emphasizing the role of the
society in the creative architectural design process.
With these projects enhancing our design process and the importance of space planning between the user and context, it will then help us in designing a small freestanding structure that meets the cultural aspect of the site through engaging with the locals.
