PROJECT 1: READING THE CONTEXTS OF TRADITIONAL STREET

In this project, we are given a task to choose a street in Malaysia like Jalan Hang Lekir, Jalan Tun HS Lee, Petaling Street and moreover based on the given list, and conduct a research on the context of the chosen street through virtual site visits and online webpages. The finalized outcome should consist all the necessary requirements of the brief, including an introduction, the physical and non-physical contexts of the street, and a summary. After that, we are then required to sketch and colour each of the A4 pages and convert them into a PDF file.

Reflection

Throughout this project, I have learned a lot about the importance of the street with its tangible and non-tangible identities, and the community of the street by understanding the cultural identity and the sustainable development alternatives. However, I do hope we are able to conduct physical site visits to the chosen streets, so it will help us to give more concise and closer perspectives of the community and the architectural styles of the shophouses in that street. This project also improved my sketching skills and information skimming skills on the street, thus giving me a clear picture on how and where to apply the information.
