DISCOVERY CENTRE

VISITOR CENTRE FOR JLN TERUSAN UTAMA PARIT 4, KAMPUNG SG HAJI DORANI

In this Project 2B individual assignment, we are tasked to compile all the information we have gathered from Project 2A, and use that to design our own personalized Discovery Centre that not only showcases the locals, their culture, their history, and their location, but also utilize the surrounding context to create a poetic design and space that respond well with their cultural aspect. Not to mention, we should also create the building based on our narrative design on what we felt and experienced with emotional thoughts, together with our chosen design elements.
The final outcome should consist 8-10 A1 boards, a physical model, and some design process sketches.

Reflection

Around the 1st week of June when I was caught with a dengue virus, and had lost 1 week of progress, I was pretty much devastated and worried that I may not be able to catch up with the others. Thus, I was given a strict schedule to rush everything I can produce and offer, what I see fit and learn a lot of different Revit modelling, as well as countless consultation with Mr Liu on materiality design and landscaping. In the end, I managed to edit and photoshopped the boards and create the physical model, and later everything was set up before presentation day.

Overall, it was quite tiring to constantly finish every task before I can sleep, and figuring out the right narrative design to be implemented in the modelling process, while I was still recovering from my liver and heart problem. However, I was glad that I've managed to catch up and clear every requirement for this submission. Having a good time management and sheer focus on the goal to keep on moving forward until the end boosted my motivation, thus was able to clear the board. 
In conclusion, I was able to learn how to design landscapes to offer views from the centre, and how my design narrative correlate well with the spatial and construction design.
